Fall List

I can’t believe that it’s already September. Where has summer gone? Summer is undoubtedly my favorite season of the year but Fall comes in a close second. I’ve become a huge decorating lover and Fall is full of great colors, materials and just makes me want to “nest”.

A whole first quarter of school has passed and I’m only 2 days away from a much needed break. It’s not a very long one so for the first time in a while I am not planning on going anywhere during my break. I’m going to stay right here and enjoy some down time, some organizing/cleaning around the house, decorating and exploring Raleigh.

I’m calling it my staycation and I’m pretty pumped. I know that first I’ll have to have at least a few days of “nothing” as I’ve been going to fast lately I really need to just slow down! Nothing says track out like sleeping in, waking up, and then moving to the couch. 🙂

I’m in the process of making a list of fun things I want to do during my track out. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

1. Craft in the crafty room as much as possible.
2. Catch up on White Collar (sooo behind)
3. Read at least 3 books.
4. Try at least 4 new recipes.
5. Go to the farmer’s market.
6. Get a pumpkin.
7. Spend time walking around downtown.
8. Eat lunch outside at Whole Foods and people watch.
9. Walk around the lake.
10. Make a craft using burlap.
11. Make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies.

I’m giddy just thinking about it all right now. That’s the kind of dork I am. 🙂

Happy Fall, Happy Track Out to Me!

What do you love about Fall? Any ideas to add to my list?

what day is it?

1. Every single day this week I have been utterly confused as to what day it is. On Tuesday I thought it was Wednesday and left work before someone needed to meet with me. Ooops. Since Thursday felt so much like Friday I kept forgetting that I actually get two Saturday’s this weekend. Love it.

2. Last night I realized how much I love the friends in my life as I sat in the middle of a suburban filled with people I love on the way to see more people I love for a cookout and I texted a sweet girl that I just became friends with this year as my dear college friend called me on the phone. I was feeling some major friend love. I love you people. All of you.

I especially love this girl today. Katie is getting married this weekend. I’m going to partay it up for the next 2 days with her and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

3. I feel like the past couple of weeks as I get back into the work routine I have neglected a major part of me: the CRAFTY part. Dear crafts, I still love you I just need more time in my day. Then I could make more fun things like framed chalkboards or earring holders or spend my free time searching goodwill for things to refinish.

4. Today is Good Friday. Sadly I think many times this day is just seen as another day off of work or school. But really this weekend, this Easter weekend, is about a Savior, a man who came to bring life through pain and suffering. I pray that we all take the time to remember and share that simple truth.

First, a history lesson. As in the history of me!

Almost 6 years ago (ok now I feel old) I met a sweet, beautiful curly-haired girl named Taylor. We literally met in the bathroom that connected our two rooms in our dorm. Taylor and her dear friend Katie lived in one room and then Lauren and I lived in the room next door. The four of us became fast friends.

We had late nights staying up watching One Tree Hill, wednesday dinners at McAllister’s, and endless silliness.

We called ourselves the “suiteys”.

My sweet Taylor is getting married in June. Taylor is the best! She’s so much fun to be around, constantly encouraging, and always makes me laugh.

Taylor and I were partners in crime in many elementary ed classes together. Together we made even the most boring lectures interesting!

Yesterday, Katie and I met in Raleigh and then drove to Charlotte for a shower for Taylor. I was so excited because unfortunately I hadn’t even seen the bride to be since she got engaged!

Taylor’s cousin (also her maid of honor) and aunt threw the shower. They made lots of Tay’s favorite foods, a lot of which happen to be mine too – like olives, yum yum!

Taylor is marrying Billy, whom I lovingly like to call Billdred. He is also nicknamed Bus Stop Billy since he and Taylor met at an AppalCart bus stop in college. Billy is the sweetest southern gentleman.

Lauren, me, Taylor and Katie.

It was the first time in over a year that the 4 of us were all together!

Of course we were up to our silly antics in no time at all. I can’t wait till we’re all together again in June for Taylor and Billy’s wedding!

Don’t forget to enter the Belizean Giveaway! Some fun stuff that you can win!

Last night we had a fun small group. Every now and then we make dinner and just enjoy some fellowship. Last night was taco night!

I was feeling kind of creative at home before I went so after grading some papers I decided to make cute little name plates for each girl.

I also stopped on the way and picked up some fresh flowers. Nothing says welcome like fresh flowers. Besides, I knew I wouldn’t mind taking them home later!

We basically had an all around fantabulous time stuffing our faces with taco salads and talking.

I was sneaky sneaky and wrote questions underneath each place card. We went around and each person had to read their question and then share their answer. I found the questions online. Here are some of them:

1. If you could meet 3 famous people dead/alive who would you meet?

2. If your life was a movie, what would the title be?

3. What reality show would you like to be on and why?

4. If you could write a book what would it be about?

5. What is the best costume you have worn?

6. If you could only eat 5 foods for the rest of your life what would you choose?

7. You can only listen to 3 CD’s for the rest of your life, which ones would you choose?

It was fun hearing everyone’s answers! We certainly are an interesting bunch!

And then we got to dig into this amazing dessert that Jenny made. It had angel food cake and strawberries and whipped cream. It was soooo good!

Afterwards we had to of course take some group pictures together like last time. I don’t have copies of them yet but hopefully Kate will post them soon and I can share!

I love these ladies so much and the way they encourage me on in Christ!

Okay, now go ahead and answer one of the questions from above – you know you want to!

Crafty Party

Last Thursday night I hosted a Crafty Girls Get Together. Some friends came over and we made yarn wreaths while listening to old classic love songs on my TV music channel. It was a blast!

Though I’m a self confessed neat freak I love it when the table is full of materials and friends are gathered around.

Sybil focused on making her flowers.

Of course Lori was there to tell us all stories and basically cause excitement. She’s fun like that!

I’m glad Rebekah was able to come for a little bit!

Sybil and her finished wreath. I think she did a fabulous job!

Amity’s turned out super cute too!

I made a turquoise wreath but since I was helping everyone else I didn’t make the flowers. I’ll post a picture when it’s done.

I’m hoping to host more crafty get togethers in the near future. It was too much fun and a great excuse to make all of my friends come over! 😉 If you live in the Raleigh area and would like to come post a comment with your e-mail and I will send you details about the next one.

Spring Decorations Tour, Part Deux

Since I posted my Spring Decorations Tour I’ve added and changed some things that I thought I would share!

Michael’s was having a good sale this past week along with a 25% off your entire purchase so I took advantage of it. I started by getting supplies to make a yarn wreath. My cool friend Katie posted hers on her blog and I knew I had to give it a try.

I’m pretty proud of how it turned out! It takes a while to wrap the yarn but I did mine while watching a movie so it wasn’t too bad.

Here it is hanging in the front entryway. We don’t use our front door so I decorated inside it instead. The rug was the inspiration for this little area! I told my mom it’s definitely a girlie area but I am a girl and I LOVE it!

I found the cute yellow bird at Michael’s, I’ve had the pink tulips for years and the wooden chair was on the porch.

There was a whole collection of shabby chic spring decorations that I had been admiring for a while at Michael’s that finally went on sale. This sign was too precious to pass up.

My mom came over and helped me arrange these flowers in this blossom bucket. I wanted them to be short and right above the jars but Mom said that if they were taller they would add height to the fireplace. I let her give it a try and she was right, it works great. Mom’s tend to be like that. 🙂

I stole this idea from Katie as well. All I did was super glue a dollar store candlestick and vase together to make a pedestal. I then filled it with the brown filler from the dollar store as well. That’s only $3 for the whole thing. It was super easy and again it adds height to my very large mantel.

Recognize the flowers? They are from my best friend Sybil’s wedding in December. I love them and am still using them!

I had to get this cute little bunny from the dollar store.

I’ve never done this before but I thought it would be fun. Feel free to link up a post about YOUR spring decorations! Make sure the link goes directly to your post. I look forward to seeing what everyone has done!

No Pictures Please!

Yesterday you got to see a lovely tour of my spring decorations. I hope you enjoyed it! I have a “Part 2” coming because I’ve added a couple more things and crafted some as well. I also have a fun group of girls coming over to make yarn wreaths together tonight. I made one the other day and it was so much fun and it turned out really cute!

Although I pride myself in a clean, decorated house, I just want to let y’all know that I am far from perfect. Like completely. Here are some things you will NEVER see a picture of on my blog:

– My tupperware cabinet. I can’t for the life of me seem to keep this place organized. The containers and lids get all mixed up and I’ve decided it’s not worth my effort.

– My laundry piles. I let these things pile up like crazy sometimes.

– The piles under my bed and up in my closet of random stuff that I can’t figure out what to do with!

– The tons of junk that is currently out on the floor and on the bed of my old room at my parent’s house. Mom is trying to get rid of it, making me go through it all. I don’t enjoy it and I don’t know what to do with it all!

– My mail pile. I dislike going through mail, especially boring mail like lame credit card offers or financial information.

– The list of things I’m currently procrastinating: quitting my gym (another story for another time), organizing and cleaning my porch, and going through a box of old stuff.

– The 4 non-fiction books that I have started but have yet to finish.

And that’s just the “things” category. Let’s not talk about my attitudes towards others or my spiritual disciplines or how often I tell my family I love them (or really how often I don’t).

Thankfully, I serve a God who is kind and gracious and doesn’t ask me to be perfect. He’s not taking a white gloved finger and examining my coffee table for dust or nagging me to do the laundry. He’s much more concerned with my heart and my love for Him and others. How great his grace and love is!

You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.

Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand—

you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.

Psalm 40:6

Whoever loves a pure heart and gracious speech

will have the king as a friend.

Proverbs 22:11
