my mom, the rockstar

My mom is a rockstar.

Not the kind that sings and plays the electric guitar – talk to dad about that one ;). But my mom, she’s pretty much the best.

I get my blonde hair from my mom. And yes the blonde moments that go along with that. There’s nothing better than the two of us laughing about a movie or something silly we’ve done while snorting at the same time.

Mom is so much more than a mom to me. She’s an example of great fashion.

Don’t you just love the keds?

She’s an explorer and adventure seeker.

She’s had to put up with some rough characters.

Amazingly, she’s stuck around through it all.

My mom is so many things to me. She’s my number one prayer warrior and a great role model of godly womanhood. She has a servant’s heart and loves to help people. I could tell you story after story of things my mom does to help others, going above and beyond. My mom is a wonderful hostess, ask anyone who’s been over to her house. I definitely get my sense of hospitality and knack for decorating from my mom. My mom is kind and patient and is always there for me. She’s been with me through thick and thin and everything in between.

It’s funny because as I get older (and not like old, just older) I realize that I’m slowly turning into my mom. I only hope that I can somehow get half the grace and love and kindness that she portrays on a daily basis.

Most of all, my mom is MY mom, the woman that God chose to put in my life. For that I couldn’t be more thankful or happy! I love you mom! Happy Mother’s Day!

my first white christmas

Christmas became white this year. I have NEVER experienced a truly white Christmas before. We did have an icy Christmas when I was in middle school but that so does NOT count.

In the middle of Christmas dinner we looked outside at the porch and saw snow falling! It was soooo pretty!

My cul-de-sac

It was so deep! I think mom measured 6 inches in their yard.

Aunt Carol and I headed out in the snow for our first walk. Yep, we’re dorks!

My snowy street!

My Aunt and I headed over to my parental’s house to hang out for the day. Of course we had to make a snowman. Me and the nifty fifty crew (as I dubbed them) made a snowman while the brother and sister in law and Grandpa watched Whale Wars all day. Seriously, I so don’t get how you can watch that show all day.

I am a pretty awesome snowman builder. It’s all about the rolling and the packing.

There he is, Frosty the snowman. With seashell buttons and green pepper eyes. We had to get creative. At least he had a traditional carrot nose and branches for arms!

In the afternoon we played some Mexican Train Dominoes, which is always a blast. My brother and I become quite competitive when we play ANY kind of game so it can get kind of intense.

Later, we watched a Hallmark movie that I had from Netflix – Hidden Places.

It was good, typically cheesy and Dad and I spent half of the movie predicting what would happen next. We were pretty much right on, except for one event that we did not see coming. I do have to say that the male main character was pretty good looking too. I mean that never hurts. 🙂

All in all, a wonderful snow day with the fam.

american idol with the parents

My life is pretty routine these days. Wake up, go to school, work hard, stay after for a while, come home, eat dinner, watch tv with the parents. Yes, every night I watch tv with my parents. Imagine that. A twenty one year old girl watching TV with her above fifty parents.

Yet it’s fun. And I love it. First of all I am a big Jeopardy fan. Watching Jeopardy and getting at least 5 questions a night right makes me feel smart and intelligent. Which is good considering I spend my days teaching much simpler thoughts. And mom likes it too. Dad isn’t so much of a fan but we make him suffer through it anyways.

I have my spot on the loveseat. Mom and Dad have the couch. We fight over who get’s the green blanket because it’s the heaviest and the warmest. And American Idol – I’ve got the folks hooked. They used to not like it but now they watch it with me after rolling their eyes like it’s lame. And they comment. I have taught them how to comment at the TV, how interaction really is more fun. Now when we watch American Idol we ALL pick out who’s gonna make it and who’s not.

Living at home with the parents. Not half as bad as I thought it would be. 🙂

all I want for Thanksgiving

this year, all I want for Thanksgiving is:

1. To wake up and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade while playing with my precious puppy.

2. My mom’s homemade stuffing.

3. A quiet meal with my family where there isn’t a big fuss over food or decorations but a lot of time spent talking and enjoying one another.

4. To go to church on Thanksgiving. I’ve never done that before but I think it would be neat.

5. To go on a hike with my dad by the lake.

6. To take a family picture that shows who my family really is, like the one from last year where I poked my dad from behind and my brother poked me and we were all laughing.

7. A fun evening with friends that includes board games.

8. Time to sleep.

9. The chance to really reflect on what I am thankful for.
